PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- XM Satellite Radio's presidential election channel POTUS '08 will broadcast nationwide from Philadelphia's landmark restaurant Pat's King of Steaks on April 22 as Pennsylvania voters go to the polls for the state's presidential primary election.
POTUS '08 anchors Joe Mathieu and Rebecca Roberts will be live from Pat's from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm ET on primary day. Mathieu and Roberts will interview local voters, journalists, and politicians about the hard-fought Democratic contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as the prospects for presumptive GOP nominee John McCain in Pennsylvania in November.
Located in the heart of South Philly, Pat's King of Steaks was founded in 1930 by brothers Pat and Harry Olivieri, who are generally credited as the co- creators of the Philly cheesesteak. Today the legendary establishment is run by Harry's grandson, Frank Olivieri Jr.
"The national spotlight is on Pennsylvania come April 22," Frank Jr. said. "It's a big day for our state, and we're very happy to welcome XM to Pat's for this national broadcast."
That night, Roberts and Mathieu will be live from the Pennsylvania campaign rallies for Obama and Clinton starting at 7:00 pm ET, while fellow POTUS '08 anchors Tim Farley and Adrienne Mitchell will be stationed at the XM studios in Washington, D.C.
POTUS '08 is the news and talk radio channel devoted to the presidential race 24 hours a day. The commercial-free, politically neutral channel is heard from coast to coast on XM channel 130. "POTUS," pronounced POH-tus, is an expression used by White House staff for "President of the United States."
Mathieu, who serves as program director and a host for the POTUS '08 channel in Washington, D.C., described the live broadcast from Pat's as "a must."
"Pennsylvania's presidential primary is one of the most important political stories this election season," Mathieu said. "Pat's is an institution. It's an ideal place to turn on a microphone and hear what people in Philadelphia have to say. And since this is XM, people all over the country can listen in.
"Philadelphia is where our presidential election system was born," Mathieu added, pointing to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. "When you consider how steeped the city is in political history, and how pivotal the Pennsylvania primary is, it's only natural that we do a national show from Pat's. It was an easy decision. With Pat's, the only question I really have to ponder is 'wit or witout,'" Mathieu said, referring to the restaurant's age-old question about fried onions on the customer's cheesesteak.
