Kenwood SIRIUS-enabled Satellite Radio Comes Standard
NEW YORK – May 12, 2003 – The 2003.5 MAZDASPEED Protegé has been introduced with several new design twists to create a bold new look, but still retains all of the performance attributes that made the 2003 model so popular. From a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2003.5 MAZDASPEED Protegé delivers 170-horsepower, along with a sport-tuned suspension, special wheels and tires, special bodywork and a 450-watt Kenwood Excelon KDC-MP919 SIRIUS-enabled satellite audio system.
The 2003.5 MAZDASPEED Protegé features a seven-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 Kenwood audio system with a liquid gel 3-D screen that includes a self-hiding and removable faceplate, and a wireless remote control. This high-performance 450-watt, four-channel (50-watts per channel) system features six speakers, an eight-inch subwoofer and a 250-watt amplifier. In addition, the new standard audio system is SIRIUS-enabled, providing drivers with the option to subscribe to the only satellite radio service that brings listeners 60 music streams with no commercials, along with 40 world-class sports, news and entertainment streams.
“The MAZDASPEED Protegé brings driving performance and audio satisfaction to the highest level,” said Robert Davis, Vice President, Product Development for Mazda North American Operations. “This car raises temperatures and eyebrows, and the sound system is designed to add ‘boom-boom’ to the ‘zoom-zoom’. To create the MAZDASPEED Protegé, we teamed up with the top names in import and sound performance, including Kenwood, SIRIUS, Racing Beat, Callaway Cars and Racing Hart.”
When a MAZDASPEED Protegé owner purchases a year-long subscription to SIRIUS and its 100 streams of music, news, sports and entertainment broadcast nationwide, SIRIUS will send them a free SIRIUS tuner and antenna, representing over $200 in value. MAZDASPEED Protegé owners can order their free SIRIUS tuner and antenna by calling toll free (888) 999-4551.
“We are thrilled to be affiliated with Mazda as part of our exclusive agreement with Ford Motor Company, “said Doug Wilsterman, Senior Vice President Automotive OEM for SIRIUS. “The MAZDASPEED Protegé is an automobile that provides its owners an unparalleled driving experience. The addition of a SIRIUS-enabled radio will serve to even further enhance that experience by offering our uncompromised music and quality news, sports and entertainment.”
